Salary: NJC Grade C: £25,583 - £26,403 FTE (This will be paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked)

Working Pattern: This is a permanent position working 33.3 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (Monday to Friday)

The Park Community School is seeking a compassionate, motivated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated staff team. This role places a strong emphasis on in‑class learning support within a secondary school environment, alongside acting as a key worker for identified students, helping them access learning and achieve their potential. You will play a vital role in supporting students’ learning, wellbeing and development, contributing to an inclusive, supportive and purposeful school community.

About the Role

Working under the guidance of teaching staff and the SEND team, you will provide support within classrooms across a range of subjects, helping to ensure all students, particularly those with additional needs can fully engage in their learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing high‑quality in‑class support to help students access the curriculum
  • Acting as a key worker for identified students, promoting their progress, wellbeing and independence, as well as liaising with parents and carers
  • Supporting pupils’ welfare, personal development and emotional needs, especially for those with SEND
  • Assisting with learning activities as directed by teaching staff
  • Offering clerical and administrative support to ensure accurate SEND records for those children supported through the role
  • Monitoring student engagement and progress and sharing observations with teachers and SEND leaders
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and modelling high expectations
  • Upholding school policies on safeguarding, confidentiality, equality and health & safety
  • Assisting with supervision at break/lunch times and accompanying students on trips as needed

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who brings energy, patience, empathy and commitment to supporting young people in a busy secondary environment.

Essential

  • Experience working with or supporting children or young people
  • Basic understanding of adolescent development and learning needs
  • Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability to build positive relationships with both students and adults

Desirable

  • Experience supporting young people with SEND
  • Understanding of secondary‑phase curriculum expectations
  • Additional training in learning strategies or specific SEND needs
  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant qualification
