Salary: MPS - UPS £31,650 - £49,084 FTE (This will be paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked)

Working Pattern: This is a fixed term maternity cover position working 1.0 FTE per week, 39 weeks per year. Start date 1st January 2026 (or 1st December 2025 if available).

Are you passionate about English and ready to inspire the next generation of learners? We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of English to join our successful and supportive department at The Park Community School in Barnstaple, North Devon.

This is a one-year maternity cover in the first instance, with the potential to become a permanent post. It offers an exciting opportunity for both early career and experienced teachers to contribute to a well-established team delivering an ambitious and fully resourced curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4. We will also consider applications from exceptional unqualified teachers. We follow the Eduqas GCSE specifications for English Language and Literature and offer Film Studies as an additional option.

The Park Community School is a large 11–16 comprehensive with a proud history dating back to 1910 and a strong reputation across the area. In our most recent Ofsted inspection, we were rated Good, reflecting the high quality of education and pastoral care we provide. We are part of The Harbour Schools Partnership, giving our staff access to extensive professional development and collaboration opportunities across primary and secondary schools in Devon.

Our school is situated in Barnstaple, a historic market town offering a fantastic quality of life, with beautiful beaches, Exmoor National Park, and a strong local community - all just a short drive away.
